FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

From “what is e-commerce?” to advanced platform questions-every answer you need, right here.

What is e-commerce and do I really need an online store? +
E-commerce simply means selling products or services over the internet. An online store lets customers find you, browse your products, and pay you-24 hours a day, 7 days a week-without you being present. Over 2.7 billion people shop online globally. If you want to reach beyond your local area or earn revenue while you sleep, an online store is essential in today’s market.
I have no experience with websites or tech at all. Can you still help me? +
Absolutely-that’s exactly who we love working with. We handle 100% of the technical work. You don’t need to know anything about code, hosting, or web design. After launch, we walk you through managing your store in plain, simple language so you can add products, process orders, and check sales stats with full confidence.
What is the difference between a regular website and an online store? +
A regular website is a digital brochure-it shares information about your business. An online store lets customers browse products, add them to a cart, pay securely, and receive order confirmations automatically. Your store handles transactions, inventory, shipping, and customer accounts so the sales process runs on autopilot.
What can I sell in an online store? +
Almost anything! Physical products (clothing, electronics, food), digital products (e-books, courses, templates, music), services (consultations, coaching, bookings), and subscriptions. If you can describe it and set a price, you can sell it online. The only restrictions are items prohibited by law or platform terms (illegal goods, weapons, etc.).
How do customers pay me, and is it safe? +
We integrate secure payment gateways such as Stripe, PayPal, or the platform’s native payment system. Customers pay with credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or bank transfers. All transactions are SSL-encrypted and handled by PCI-compliant processors. Card details are never stored on your server-funds deposit directly into your bank account every 1–3 business days.
Do I need a registered business to start selling online? +
In most cases, no. Many entrepreneurs start as sole proprietors under their own name. As you grow, registering as an LLC or corporation protects personal assets and builds credibility. Tax obligations vary by location-we recommend consulting a local accountant for guidance specific to your situation.
What’s the difference between Shopify, WooCommerce, and Turbify? +
Shopify is a fully hosted platform - you pay a monthly fee and Shopify handles all infrastructure. Easiest to use and most popular for consumer brands. WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin - you own everything and pay for your own hosting, gaining unlimited customization. Turbify (formerly Yahoo Small Business) is a hosted platform with powerful built-in tools, strong for B2B and migrating legacy Yahoo stores. Each has strengths based on your business type, budget, and comfort level.
Which platform should I choose for my first store? +
For most beginners, we recommend Shopify. It’s the fastest to launch, easiest to manage, and has excellent 24/7 support. If you already have a WordPress site or rely heavily on content/SEO, WooCommerce is the natural choice. If you’re migrating from a Yahoo Store or need strong B2B catalog tools, Turbify makes sense. Still unsure? Fill out our form and we’ll give you a personalized recommendation for free.
Can I switch platforms later if I change my mind? +
Yes, and we offer a professional migration service. However, migrations take time and money, so choosing the right platform upfront is worthwhile. Products, customer data, and order history can typically be exported and re-imported, but custom designs and app configurations need to be rebuilt. We take time during discovery to help you choose wisely.
Do I actually own my store and all my data? +
With WooCommerce, you own everything absolutely. With Shopify and Turbify, you own your store data (always exportable), but your store runs on their hosted infrastructure-if you cancel your subscription, the store goes offline, similar to any SaaS product. We always provide a full data export regardless of platform so you’re never fully locked in.
How long does it take to build my online store? +
Timeline depends on complexity. A Starter Store with a premium theme and up to 50 products takes 1–2 weeks. A Growth Store with custom design takes 3–5 weeks. Enterprise stores with custom development take 6–12 weeks. The biggest delay factor is usually waiting for content (product photos, descriptions) from the client. We send you a checklist upfront to keep everything on schedule.
What do I need to provide to get started? +
We’ll need: your logo (or we can create one as an add-on), brand colors and fonts if available, product photos and descriptions, your domain name (or help getting one), and payment account credentials. We send a detailed onboarding checklist after our discovery call and work around missing assets where possible.
Will I be able to manage my store myself after launch? +
Yes, 100%. After launch we provide a recorded video walkthrough and a live training session covering how to add and edit products, process orders, manage inventory, apply discount codes, and review analytics. All three platforms have beginner-friendly dashboards. No technical knowledge required to run your store day-to-day.
Do you offer revisions during the build process? +
Yes. All plans include at least 2 rounds of design revisions before development begins, plus 1 round after the dev preview is shared. We design in Figma first, so major changes are caught before coding begins. Additional revision rounds beyond what’s included are available at an hourly rate.
What happens after my store launches? +
Depending on your plan, you receive 14–60 days of post-launch support where we fix bugs, answer questions, and make minor tweaks at no extra cost. After that, you can continue independently or subscribe to our Monthly Maintenance plan from $79/month for ongoing updates, security, and priority support. We’re a long-term partner, not a one-and-done agency.
How do I get customers to visit my new store? +
Getting traffic is a marketing challenge-but we set you up for success with SEO foundations, Google Analytics 4, and Meta Pixel from day one. Common traffic sources: SEO (organic Google rankings), paid ads on Google & Meta/Instagram, social media marketing, email marketing to your contacts, influencer partnerships, and word-of-mouth. We offer an SEO Package add-on and can recommend trusted marketing partners.
How does shipping and delivery work for my store? +
We integrate your preferred shipping solution. Most stores use real-time carrier rates from UPS, USPS, FedEx, or DHL-customers see the cost at checkout automatically. You can also set flat-rate shipping or free shipping above a threshold. For fulfillment, you can ship from home, use a third-party fulfillment center (3PL), or set up dropshipping where the supplier ships directly to your customer.
How do returns and refunds work in my store? +
We set up a clear return policy page and configure your store so customers can request returns through their account portal. Shopify has built-in return management where you can approve, track, and process refunds from your dashboard. We recommend setting your return policy (e.g., 30-day returns for unused items) before launch and displaying it clearly throughout your store.
Do I need to collect sales tax on online orders? +
Online sales tax rules vary by country and state. In the US, you generally need to collect sales tax where you have “nexus.” Shopify and WooCommerce have built-in tax calculation that automatically charges the correct rate based on customer location. We configure basic tax settings at launch, but we strongly recommend consulting an accountant or using a service like TaxJar for full compliance.
I only have a few products. Is a full online store worth it? +
Absolutely. Focused stores with a curated selection often convert better than massive catalogs. A single-product store can be extremely effective when it solves a clear problem. The overhead of running a modern store is minimal once set up, and adding products later is as simple as filling in a form in your dashboard.
Can my store sell internationally to customers worldwide? +
Yes. We can set up multi-currency pricing, international shipping rates, and translated content. Shopify Markets and WooCommerce WPML are our go-to solutions. You’ll need to consider international shipping carriers, customs/duties disclosure, and potentially VAT collection in regions like the EU. We’ll guide you through the setup based on your target markets.
Do I need to buy hosting and a domain name separately? +
For Shopify and Turbify: hosting is included in your platform subscription. You only need a domain name ($10–20/year). For WooCommerce: you need separate hosting (SiteGround, Kinsta, or WP Engine at ~$15–30/month) plus a domain. We can handle all of this for you as part of the setup and walk you through connecting everything.
Will my store be secure? What about hackers and fraud? +
Security is built into everything we do. All stores get an SSL certificate (the padlock/https). Shopify and Turbify handle enterprise-grade security at the infrastructure level. For WooCommerce, we install Wordfence security, configure automatic backups, and keep everything updated. Payment data is never stored on your server-it’s handled entirely by PCI-compliant payment processors.
What happens if my store goes offline unexpectedly? +
Shopify offers a 99.99% uptime SLA and Turbify has enterprise infrastructure-downtime is extremely rare on both. WooCommerce on managed WordPress hosting is equally reliable. On our Monthly Maintenance plan you get priority access to our team for rapid resolution. We also configure automated backups so your store can be fully restored within hours if anything unexpected occurs.
Can you integrate my store with tools I already use - QuickBooks, Mailchimp, CRM? +
Yes. All platforms support integrations with hundreds of popular business tools. Common ones: accounting (QuickBooks, Xero), email marketing (Mailchimp, Klaviyo), CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce), shipping labels (ShipStation, EasyShip), and review platforms (Judge.me, Trustpilot). Growth and Enterprise plans include 3+ integrations. Additional integrations are available as add-ons.
How fast will my store load? Does page speed really matter? +
Speed matters enormously-a 1-second delay can reduce conversions by up to 7%, and Google uses page speed as a ranking signal. Every store we build is speed-optimized: images compressed without quality loss, code minified, CDN delivery enabled, and browser caching configured. Our target is a Lighthouse score above 85 and mobile load time under 2.5 seconds. Growth and Enterprise plans include a speed audit report at launch.
